I've heard this being brought up a few times, in the news and even at school. Should mercy killing be allowed?

Let us know what your views are on this particular matter.

Are you referring to people who are in pain or near death? If the taking of someone's life in a condition like that is what you're talking about, then no i don't think it should be allowed.
I don't think it should be the decision of people to decide when it's time for someone to die.
With that said, someone on life support is a different story. I think families do have the right to make the decision to take someone off life support if that person is believed not to have a chance to survive on their own.
With today's technology and advance medical techniques it is quite easy for many people to be kept "alive" with the aid of machines. I don't think it is necessary to do that in all situations. it's the responsibility of doctors to try to save a life, but to sustain one knowing that he or she will never survive without aid is pointless, in my opinion.

I agree with justin on the part about those on life support. If they the person can't survive without it and they are in the mental/physical state where they can't even make the decision to have them taken off, then it should be left up to the family. (Now, if they can talk and do things, then no, because they are able)....i'm not sure if I worded all this well or not, so if it doesn't make sense just give me a heads up >.<

i don't agree...i don't think anyone has the right to take someones life, its not our choice to make, God knows and will decide when its time for someone to go.

You both make good responses...but i don't believe we should be able to make that decision. Like i heard in the news a little while back that a father killed his daughter because she was suffering, and now is in jail for life, and was rejected bail about a week ago. I agree with the courts, because someone shouldn't be allowed to just kill someone because they suffer. People suffer everyday, and if went around killing them, or if families and relatives killed every one of their relatives that were suffering, they'rd be a lot of dead people around the world.

God has a plan, and he will decide when its time for us all Smile

well yeah, they're suffering. But the suffering I'm referring to is the point where the person can't talk, can't eat, they can barely breathe, they can't even move and there's no hope for any recovery and the only thing that's keeping them alive is a tube. Then I think it's okay for the families to choose.

Now, if it's just like a missing leg or whatev, then there's no need because they can get through life without a leg, you know?

i totally understand cpowanab7, if that was the case, i agree that life support should and can be taken off. After all, i think life support is an evil tool that plays with Gods creation, and just pro-longs something God had intended to happen earlier. God has a set time and date for our passing away...he knows how and when we will pass away...and i believe when that time comes...then that should be met...and doctors shouldn't be playing around with extending peoples lives who should be up in God's Kingdom. Its cruel i think...

This is a hard question for me to answer.

When we have animals that are sick or in pain, we put them down because we don't want them to suffer.

When it comes to human life, some lay in pain, suffering and some are totally incompasitated to do anything on their own because they are hooked up to machines that feed them, breath for them, keep them alive. They are not able to tell us that they are tired or hurting, tired of being in constant pain....

This doesn't mean I support it either way, because I haven't made up my mind in this matter. What I can and will say is: We won't let an animal suffer, so why do we let others suffer......

Just food for thought I guess.

Blessed be,

Lisa

well as far as tinkering with God's timing, I think of it this way:

When God wants a person and He thinks they're ready, He's going to take them regardless of any life support system they're on, He's God after all lol.

In response to the animals being put down, that is a good point. I need to think on it a bit more, but my first reaction was that we put animals down because it is the "humane" thing to do, whereas we keep the people alive because I think humans have a natural fear of death, so they do all they can to keep themselves and their close ones alive. This may or may not be the case, that's why I want to think on it a bit more.
