Do you really think that by listening to certain music, like rock or metal (Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Jimi Hendrix, Metallica, etc) that you'll be influenced? Brainwashed, even? Do you consider it sinning to like these bands?

You have to make the judgment for yourself as to whether or not it's a sin to listen to music like that.
Whatever u take in goes through your heart and mind. It's hard not to be influenced a little by them. Satan's subtle ways.
A Christian wouldn't hang out at the bars or with drug dealers, murderers, thieves, etc. Their life could definitely be an influence. That doesn't mean we shouldn't talk to or witness to people like that. but a line has to be drawn.

I like how justin put it about applying the same concept in other areas with hanging out with different people influencing you and all of that.

Now, me personally, out of the list you made, I love Jimi Hendrix and Metallica. Their music was well written and original. However, I did a paper on Metallica and I had to do a lot of research. I went through reading their lyrics and how depressing some (most) of them are and looking back, my "worst year" I was listening to a lot of Metallica and other music like that, not even realizing that that was the cause. Specially when you sing it outloud, even if it's quoting, singing, whatever it is you're doing you are speaking life into it. So when you sing a let's say "angry" song over and over again, it will have influence over you.

Another thing that I thought interesting about this post is that you focused in on music. Now, I do believe that Lucifer, the Fallen Angel, was actually the angel in charge of worship in heaven. Evenmoreso, that covered music. That's what I find most interesting is that look at how much music has an influence over people nowadays. We try to get ideas about a person based off the music they listen to. Also, everywhere you go, there's an iPod, there's an MP3 player, there's loud speakers going on from someone's car. Look how easy it is for someone to fall into bad music. How easily influenced we all can be. Satan can take advantage of that easily because that's what he was in charge of, setting up worship for God. Now, he's using those abilities and knowledge to get others to worship what he wants us to worship.

Personally, i think Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Metallica, and the list can go on, is Satanic Music. Yes yes you probably think i'm crazy but the reason why we have so many..how should i explain this.. "evil" looking logos to broadcast the band, and such hatrid song lyrics is because people are influenced, and look for anger to express through music.

I may not be too clear with my point but please cope with me lol.

xoxo

I do not believe that it is the type of music which is inherently evil but instead the artist and their use of the type of music. I could tell you of country songs which could be inherently just as evil as many rock/metal songs and vice versa. Now, there are many christian groups which you can find who play only this type of music whose songs are more influential on the spirit than other types of music. So to reiterate what has been said by some people, it is a decision you have to make overall by knowing what influences you in what ways. Perhaps the groups you mentioned aren't the best to be listening to, but there are others out there who you can look up who are similar in sound but have a good message to their music. Well that's my 2 cents.
